Hotel opening
in times of corona

A family business in Frankfurt shows how it's done

In the heart of the Main metropolis and in the immediate vicinity of the Alte Oper and the banking district, the hotel "The Flag West M." opens its doors on 24. Juni 2020. The youngest hotel in Frankfurt is primarily aimed at business people and is the fourth business hotel in the group The Flag. However, the usual celebrations normally associated with a hotel opening are no longer appropriate. The influence of the Corona pandemic is too immense.

"Of course we would have liked to have had a great opening ceremony," says Eike Muhr, Managing Director of The Flag. "Even though we mainly target business customers who are looking for a longer-term place to stay, it soon became clear to us that the original plans for the opening could not be realised in this way". A big celebration would have been the wrong signal and as a family business one can react quickly and flexibly to changes.

Instead of celebrations, a donation for the Palmengarten

Instead of an opening ceremony, Eike Muhr's team decided to donate the party budget to the nearby Palmengarten. "The Palmengarten is our neighbour and offers extensive nature and relaxation in the middle of the city. This is of tremendous value," Eike Muhr emphasised. "We also like the history of the Palmengarten, where citizens are committed to their city - that suits us".

Hygiene concept right from the start

During the preparation of all processes in the new hotel, The Flag quickly realised that consistent hygiene concepts can be easily integrated in a new opening. "We certainly have it a little easier there than in existing buildings. After all, we take a close look at all processes for the opening anyway and integrate additional hygiene requirements right from the start as a normal procedure," says Muhr.

According to the operator, the first guests will be staying at the hotel as early as 24. Juni 2020. At the same time, the official presentation to the public will start. However, it will last for three days. Eike Muhr: "Thanks to small groups, this will take place somewhat more slowly. This will give us enough time to present the details of the hotel. And be it only the hint at the free masks that the first guests will find in their rooms.

Green oasis with rooftop terrace

The hotel The Flag West M. offers 228 rooms in five different categories. All guests can use the sheltered green outdoor space and enjoy the view over the Frankfurt skyline from the rooftop terrace. The building with its striking natural stone facade, shiny window frames and green-blue tinted panes immediately catches the eye with its clear structures. Inside, the hotel has a simple and functional design. The innovative restaurant concept of Elaines Deli, a day bar, modern co-working space, free WIFI, conference rooms and fitness facilities round off the offer tailored to business travellers.

Soon also Senior Living in Frankfurt?

With the new opening, the group now has two business hotels in the Main metropolis. In addition, the group already offers apartments for students in three buildings in Frankfurt. However, the family-owned company The Flag also plans to realise a house for senior living in the Rhine-Main area. There are many older people in Frankfurt who would like to move into a smaller apartment. "Thanks to our concept, senior citizens can live independently, but with the comfort and support that they are happy to accept in old age," says Muhr. For them, such concepts also relieve the tense housing market, since moving usually frees up larger apartments. Muhr: "The demand is undoubtedly there. The challenge lies in finding a suitable property".
