The German group THE FLAG continues its growth in the senior living segment. It has now laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new building complex with architecture suitable for senior citizens and a wide range of service options on the Costa del Sol. In Germany, the group is currently developing further properties for senior living at six locations.

"Where people usually go on holiday, we are now building a residential building specially adapted to the needs of older people," says Dr Eike Muhr, Managing Director of THE FLAG. Until now, this type of usage did not exist in Estepona, and senior apartments are a very suitable addition in Muhr's view: "Future tenants can use the good infrastructure on site, and the community gets new residents who live on site regardless of the season. Of course, from the seniors' point of view, the climate, the proximity to the sea and the charm of the province with its special way of life also speak in favour of this location."

On a former wasteland of around 5.200 square metres, 90 barrier-free apartments are now being built. The building will have its own restaurant, a fitness and wellness area with sauna, including a 20 metre long outdoor pool. In addition, numerous services such as housekeeping, flat service in case of absence, driving services, shopping service and event offers are planned.

"We continue to see a very high demand in apartments specifically tailored to seniors that allow them to live independently," Muhr emphasises. "Many older people no longer want to live in the apartment that is perhaps too large or difficult to manage. They want to maintain their individual independence and at the same time want more convenience and optional supports in everyday life as well as housing options adapted to them." This is exactly what THE FLAG Senior Living segment offers.

The Senior Living concept of THE FLAG provides apartments that can be individually furnished; the apartments usually have basic equipment, for example a fitted kitchen. People live in either single or double apartments. These apartments are self-contained units. In addition to the living area with integrated kitchen, a separate bathroom and usually a storage room, each apartment has a separate bedroom. Fitted kitchens are designed to suit the residents' limitations, and bathrooms are designed to be barrier-free with ground-level showers. A telephone with a 24-hour emergency call is standard in every apartment. Certain flats also have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom.
